A great class last night – Managing Your Emotions with my University of Virginia – SCPS students –

We were discussing the 2nd dichotomy of Emotional Intelligence – Self-Management – In an exercise students broke into groups and came up with some great ways to manage or regulate their emotions, especially when things are challenging. Here are just some of their responses:

Be aware of your emotions
Control any negativity or negative thoughts
Think about positive thoughts & emotions
Be aware when you go into new environments
Do some Yoga
Work through your thoughts
Reflect and breathe
Delay your reactions and responses
Think before your speak
List 7 people who love and support you
Try not to get lost in the “what if’s?”
Listen to music
Step away from negative “self-talk”
Continue to do a lot of reflecting
